Michael Leiter '87 to Keynote Commencement 2012

This Sunday, June 3, 2012, the Dwight-Englewood School (D-E) community will celebrate Commencement for the Class of 2012. 117 students will be awarded diplomas by Head of School Dr. Rodney V. De Jarnett, Upper School Principal Joseph Algrant, and Board of Trustees President Dr. John Hajjar. The ceremony is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at Leggett Field on the D-E campus.

Keynote remarks during the graduation ceremony will be provided by Michael Leiter, Senior Counsel for Northern Virginia-based software and technology company Palentir Technologies, Inc., and a graduate of the Dwight-Englewood (D-E) Class of 1987.  Read more about Michael Leiter and his professional career path, courtesy of www.northjersey.com 

The former director of the National Center for CounterTerrorism, Leiter is a graduate of Columbia University and the Harvard Law School, where he led the Law Review, served as a Harvard Law School Human Rights Fellow with the International Criminal Tribunal in The Hague, and graduated magna cum laude.

Prior to earning his J.D., Leiter also served with the U.S. Navy as a flight officer and crewmember aboard EA – 6B Prowlers, participating in the U.S., NATO, and United Nations operations in the former Yugoslavia and Iraq. His professional experience also includes serving as a law clerk to Associate Justice Stephen Breyer of the Supreme Court, and deputy general counsel and assistant director of the Robb-Silberman Commission.

While serving as the NCTC Director Leiter managed a department of 1,200 counterterrorism analysts. In addition to his current responsibilities with Palentir, Leiter still holds a number of advisory roles for government agencies, including the National Security Agency. He is also a commentator for NBC on terrorism, cyberterror, and issues of ‘big data’.
