The first two weeks of D-E Summer Connections were surely busy! For Bonus Week, Summer Discoveries and Summer Adventures campers began their six-week Around the World theme. Each week will be spent learning about the continents and geographic regions, starting with the Arctic and Pacific Oceans and followed by America. Adventures and Discoveries campers have their set classes mixed in with specials such as yoga, cooking, music or art throughout the day. The Adventurers also went on their first field trips - to the Aviation Hall of Fame in Teterboro, NJ, for Bonus Week; then, for Week 1, the Statue of Liberty on Liberty Island in New York Harbor. Additionally, Bonus Week for Adventures kicked off with a Team Spirit Challenge, which encouraged and instilled safety and respect in all campers for one another and the camp's rules.

Week 1 brought Enrichment students onto campus, some of whom made cooking specials right from the get-go in Cheftastic, creating yummy edibles such as carrot-raisin muffins and veggie pizza. Middle School Enrichment also had classes such as Fashion Week, 3-D Graphic Design, Jewelry Making, Lawn Sports, Football, Digital Photography, Debate and Watercolors. At the end of Week 1, there were three performances to celebrate the students’ work: Make Em Laugh performed skits they wrote and then did some improv for their audience; Debate discussed the topic of higher education and its costs and accessibility; and Sportscasters put on a live newscast. Also running concurrently was Violin Kaleidoscope, a class for young violinists.
