DELTA 2015 - Enroll Now!

Launched in the fall of 2013, the Dwight-Englewood Learning and Teaching Annex (DELTA) is one of four divisions of Dwight-Englewood School offering open-enrollment courses for enrichment, advancement, or credit. Courses are designed to be multi-disciplinary in nature offering learning across a variety of disciplines for different age groups (including adults).

For its first winter season, DELTA offered four classes for students while adults have an Ethics workshop offering:

Winter 2015 Ethics Workshop: From Gut Reaction to Ethical Thinking
This is a terrific opportunity for adult learners interested in exploring applied ethics through Dwight-Englewood School's DELTA Program. Over five Saturday mornings from January 31 to February 28, Ethics Chair Joseph Murphy will lead an interactive course aimed at thinking deeply about some of the moral questions of humanity.

The course will take place from 10 AM to 12 PM in the Ethics Classroom of Leggett Hall. Required Student Equipment is BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) - participants will need a computer or an e-reader of some kind to read documents used in the course. Please Note: This course will be video recorded to be used as a MOOC (a Massive Open Online Course).

There is a maximum capacity of 20 participants. For career teachers, a certificate for ten professional development hours will be distributed to each individual participant who completes the workshop. Click here for additional information and to register prior to the January 31 start date.

Career teachers looking for a more cultural offering can consider the Hall of Worthies (JipHyunJun) Workshop on Korean History and Culture, taking place this summer 2015. Building on the relationship with Sejong Cultural Education, Inc. with whom D-E has partnered for the past few summers on summer culture trips for students and faculty - the Hall of Worthies Workshop will provide educators with comprehensive and experiential knowledge to develop inclusive teaching methods that recognize the worthiness of every child.

This five-day summer seminar will be held July 20-24, 2015, and provide both scholastic and hands-on experiences of Korea. Past and present history, religion, philosophy, art, music, film, literature, economic and political development, and food will be woven into the lectures and presentations of prominent scholars, artists, authors, and community leaders. Teachers will create their own lessons and network in response to the Common Core needs of their subject areas. The workshop, for K-12 teachers in public and private schools, promises to be open-ended, providing participants with the opportunity to learn and share with one another. Participants will explore the following areas:
  • History and culture of traditional Korea
  • Relationship between modern Korea and the US
  • Rise of Korean political and economic power in the 21st century
  • Cross-cultural understanding of the diversity of the United States
  • Human rights issues associated with Korea's past and present state
The five-day schedule, from July 20-24, 2015, begins at 8:30, with lunch at 11:30, and the day ends at 3:00.
