The 2013 edition of D-E's literary and arts magazine Calliope has won a Gold Medalist Certificate from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA) in the "critique" phase of judging.
According to Calliope faculty advisor and Middle-Upper School Librarian Steve Petkus, "We've had an incredible run of achievement for the magazine recently: in the past ten years, we have achieved Gold Medal status in the critique phase of judging nine times. And, in fact, the only Silver Medal we've gotten in the critiques in that stretch of time (for the 2011 issue) was also the only issue, ironically, to go on and win a prestigious Silver Crown Award from the CSPA. (The two judging processes are entirely separate, though both are run by the CSPA.) In the school's history, the Crown award has been achieved only two other times, with a Gold Crown for the 1982 issue and a Silver Crown for the 1993 issue."
