Demarest, NJ
Grade 12
Where are you from? Demarest, NJ
When did you start at D-E? (What grade?)I started in the 9th grade.
What activities are you involved in? At D-E, I am involved in a number of different clubs and activities. I am a Co-President of Tour Guiding Club, Deputy Secretary General of the Model UN Club, and participate in CODES (Community Outreach at Dwight-Englewood School). I am also a member of Student Government, Hearing Council, orchestra, and String Jam. During the fall, I am on the Field Hockey team.
What is your favorite spot on D-E campus? My favorite spot on campus is the far side of Leggett Field, where there are a few lounge chairs for students to relax on in the sun.
Favorite D-E tradition? The tradition that I look forward to every year is the Thanksgiving Assembly. The assembly brings all students, teachers, and other staff members together. Everybody shares a part of their passion, whether it is through performing music or just talking to the school about what they have been doing. The Turkey Dance further joins the school together through smiles and laughs. It is just an amazing time overall!
What are your favorite classes?Overall, I've enjoyed my English and History classes the best, though Honors Pre-Calculus with Mrs. Barrett will always have a special place in my heart. My history and english seminars this year have been classes that I had been looking forward to every week. The relaxed atmosphere coupled with the very small class size, had made more interesting conversations exploring multiple perspectives on a given topic, and a deeper understanding of the different texts that I had read.
Why D-E?D-E is a closely-knit community, that welcomes and accommodates all people, regardless of gender, race, and status. Here, an unconditional love and passion for learning exists, and it is demonstrated through the students' and teachers' drive to learn and teach each other. Students chase after their own goals, and push themselves to achieve them. Teachers, on the other hand, guide and provide the atmosphere that encourages and supports the students. The teachers make an effort to get to know each student, and this is clear in the way that they ask about students' hobbies and lives. Dwight-Englewood is a unique community, which fosters and supports all that are within it.
One quirky fact about youSomething quirky about me, is the fact that I always have a bar of chocolate and granola with me at all times.
