There is a long tradition of academic excellence and innovative learning at Dwight-Englewood.
Here at D-E, our students learn to love learning. Structured classes help them achieve their individual goals while involving them in valuable teamwork. What makes Dwight-Englewood so singular is that we are a community where everyone teaches, everyone learns, and all subscribe to the school motto, per ardua ad veritatem (through hard work, we arrive at the truth). We share our values and vision, and we are engaged in achieving our mission: Together we seek excellence, honor integrity, and embrace diversity.
Dwight-Englewood students pursue their dreams, learn from each other, and are challenged to grow and develop their innate talents. Within our diverse school population, you’ll learn to value and appreciate differences and prepare yourself for success in our increasingly connected world. Your comprehensive education, infused with the Dwight-Englewood spirit of inquiry, will prepare you for the emerging demands, opportunities, and technologies of the 21st century.
Hands-on learning is at the heart of the Dwight-Englewood educational experience. In the Lower School, we help students make connections among disciplines that spark creative thinking. In the transitional Middle School years, we focus on critical thinking, problem solving, and study skills, with emphasis on reading, writing, and formal oral presentation. The Upper School challenges students to advance these skills within a classical college-preparatory program.
Our faculty of highly trained teachers—thinkers and scholars who have largely been with the school for more than 10 years—fosters an academically challenging environment marked by problem solving and independent thinking. Teachers and principals instill a lifelong passion for learning and collaborate to provide a seamless transition from one division to the next. Our very favorable student/faculty ratio of 8:1 ensures that individual attention is always available.
